Jason Hicks' inspiration for his work comes from his love of the New Zealand landscape, wildlife, birdlife and his passion for the history of our land.
Jason's work is vastly rich in texture, yet harmonious, comprising layers of loose under-drawing, more formally worked areas of over-painting. He incorporates text, Maori iconography and robust colour to his visual inquiry. The combined effect is enhanced by the materials he works on with recycled timbers, often providing a fitting foil to the captivating imagery.
Jason has achieved recognition with Norsewear and Waikato art awards and Rosl art UK travel scholarship.
His work is regularly published in books and magazines, and he has extensive exhibition listings and works in major corporate and private collections in New Zealand and overseas.
