ARTISTS' BIO
DAVE PAULING
Dave Pauling was born in Auckland in 1976 and moved with his family around the South Island before settling in Auckland. After 20 years of Auckland life, he moved to Marlborough in 2010 with his wife and 3 children. He is currently an Area School (Y0 to 13) Principal in Marlborough and is very much a family man.
Dave’s first guitar build was in high school and he has remained passionate about mixing music, native timber and the artistic process of luthiering ever since. Vincenzo & son Louis Panormo (Vincenzo was born in Sicily in 1734), ancestors via his father’s side perhaps provided some of the passion via the bloodline… Recycled native New Zealand timber is the preferred canvas. There are so many native electric & acoustic guitar tone-woods in NZ. Each timber has its own unique sound, aroma, workability and beauty. Solace guitars are hand-crafted, with the body of the flagship model, the Marlburian ™ being crafted entirely from timber sourced locally. Heart rimu, matai, blackwood and rewarewa are a few favourites. The process of building guitars is a long but rewarding one, one that he continues to hone, enjoy & thank God for. |
