STEVE SIMMERS

Steve Simmers is regarded as a Master Carver of Pounamu. He creates works that embody both the natural beauty of the stone and the deep cultural significance it holds here in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Working with patience and reverence, he shapes each piece of pounamu by hand, allowing the character of the stone itself to guide the final form.

Steve's carvings are known for their elegance, balance, and refinement. Whether crafting a delicate Toki, a traditional Hei Matau, or other symbolic forms, he brings a quiet sensitivity to the stone, revealing the rich hues of deep green, misty translucence, and sometimes striking threads of gold or darker veins running through the pounamu.

His work reflects a profound respect for the traditions of pounamu carving in New Zealand, while also expressing his own artistic voice. The surfaces of his pieces are finished with great care, smooth and luminous, inviting the touch and highlighting the natural life within the stone.

Steve Simmer's works have found their way around the globe, and throughout New Zealand. They are not just  an ornament or piece of jewellery, they are a taonga to be treasured and passed down through generations.
